"I want Lanvin, not flowers"

I’m so jealous of Europe and America. I find it quite unfair that we don’t have access to the capsule collections that designers create for H&M. Lanvin has always been a favourite of mine, since the time when I really began to understand fashion. Alber Elbaz collections are always in touch with what is suitable for a woman and what will enhance her look. He expresses a strong sense of femininity in his collections, they always have an air of whimsy and prettiness – sometimes, that’s all a girl needs…

Comment #2: South African Fashion Blogs

Jennifer Searle recently wrote an article about South African Fashion blogs for ifashion. She interviewed a few local bloggers and some designers to get their perspectives on the subject. The general consensus is that fashion blogging in South Africa is on the rise, which is true. I believe that fashion blogs are important to expand the scope of our fashion industry and elevate the interest in South African Fashion, so that it can become a part of our culture (like it is in Europe) and in that way help our industry grow, because people will want to support local designers and stores and get involved and not blindly go for the international brands because they don’t have any knowledge about our industry.

Fabulous Avril

I met Avril today on my way home from school at the taxi rank. We had been in the same taxi from Jan Smuts and I’d seen her and her fabulousness and hoped that we’d be getting off at the same stop. Luckily we were, and I approached her for a picture for my blog. I was really glad she was totally cool with it, and she understood what it was all about, because street style blogs/bloggers are not really as common in South Africa as they are in Europe or America, so here there’s always that risk that people will not understand what your intention is /will be reluctant. We spoke for a short while and she told me a bit about herself and I gathered that she travels to Europe frequently Her style is very Euro-polished, but still with a slight street edge. Perhaps our paths will cross again...

Style About Town

Below are some street style pictures I shot a few days ago. Street style is interesting to me because it shows what people actually wear on a daily basis and how they go about defining their style, (or lack thereof)beyond what magazines and other fashion media dictate. Asking people to take their photograph is quite daunting, but it gets easier as you get on with it - it really becomes quite fun!
